Jackie’s double shooting crown

Jackie Jones, of Llanymynech, is celebrating double shooting success following her recent wins in the Powys inter-counties clay pigeon championship.

Jackie, who works in the Wynnstay gunroom at Oswestry and is also a private shooting instructor,

was competing against some of the top Welsh international shooters and was crowned ladies sporting high gun champion and ladies skeet high gun champion for Powys.

Facing stiff competition from many of the top lady shooters in Wales, Jackie is extremely proud of her achievement.  “I started shooting in 1993 and since then I’ve had a lot of success, including being lucky enough to represent Wales in a number of international and world championship competitions.  My main discipline has always been ‘down the line’ shooting, so it is very special to have won titles in these new disciplines.  Even more pleasing is the fact that I won them on home soil.”

Jackie is supported in her shooting efforts by colleague Mark Lawrence who manages the Oswestry gunroom.  “Jackie is an amazing talent and we are all really proud of her latest shooting achievements,” Mark explains.  “She is always happy to give help and advice to any of our customers and it is great having such a natural shot working in the gunroom.  The enthusiasm she has for the sport is second to none and we wish her every success in her future shooting career.”

Jackie will be offering her support and advice to local shooters at a charity clay pigeon shoot on Saturday 16 th May.  The competition is being run by Wynnstay in conjunction with the Oswestry branch of the NFU Mutual.  The 50 bird sporting competition starts at 2pm with entries costing £12 per competitor.  All proceeds from the day will be donated to the NSPCC and RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute) and the event is being held by kind permission of Mr Malcolm Roberts at Buckley Farm, Maesbury Road, Oswestry.  There will also be a chance for participants to test a range of shotguns including the latest offerings from Italian gunsmith Caesar Guerini.
