NVZ rules change from December 2006
Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ) rules, which have an environmental affect on many arable and grassland farmers change from December 2006.

Restrictions on the use of organic manures on arable and grassland farms will increase as the NVZ rules are tightened throughout the country.

The change affects the maximum average organic nitrogen application on arable land within the NVZ. The previous figure of 210 kg/hectare is reduced to 170 kg/ha from December 2006. It is important to note that the actual inputs of organic N can be as much as 250 kg/ha but must not exceed crop requirement.

Records of all organic and in organic fertiliser application must be retained for at least 5 years.

Specific information and advice is available from FACTS registered Wynnstay personnel.
