2011 Early Season Review of UK Grass Silage Mineral Status

mineral_analysis.JPGKey Points

  • As always, there are distinctive mineral trends related to seasonal factors
  • The key feature of 2011 grass silage is undoubtedly the recovery of Phosphorus  levels from the 2010 low point.  This year, every 1% of Phosphorus in a mineral supplement costs approximately £24/tonne
  • While Potassium remains high, antagonistic pressure on Copper availability from   Iron and Molybdenum will be slightly up this year in some forages
  • Calcium levels continue to rise
  • Feeding our highly popular Prepare nuts (semi DCAB) to close-up dry cows works   well with high Potassium, high calcium grass silages
